Ube Technical Center (Asia) Limited (UTCA)

Established in 2004 as a research and development arm of UBE Group in Thailand,
UTCA firstly provides the testing and research and development services to companies
within UBE Group starting with UBE Nylon (Thailand) on Nylon & Nylon compounding
testing and development, Thai Synthetic Rubber Limited on catalysis of polymerization
of butadiene reaction research. In 2007, the Corporate R&D and Butadiene Rubber
Business Unit of UBE Japan start to work with UTCA to begin the collaboration
research projects with Thai Universities. At the end of 2009, UTCA had already
completed two projects with Chulalongkorn University and Kasetsart University
and having four projects in progress with Thai Universities. Now, UTCA pursues
the testing service, research and development for UBE Group as well as outside
customers.
With extensive equipments to support testing services to Nylon, Polybutadiene
rubber and Caprolactam manufacturing bases of UBE Group in Thailand, UTCA has
a wide range of testing equipments for testing plastic, rubber and petrochemical
materials. UTCA’s principle analysis equipment consists of:
- Weathering test machine (2 carbon arc & 1 Xenon set)
- Heat aging test machines (5 static & 2 rotating sets)
- Color, Gloss & Haze meters
- Optical microscopes & SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) with EDX
- Injection machine with Axxicon molds for ISO specimen type A, B, C & D
- FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer with microscope
- X-ray fluoresecne spectrometer
- Twin bore capillary rheometer
- Universal tensile testing machine with environmental chamber
- Charpy Impact tester
- Rockwell hardness tester
- Differential Scannin Calorimeter (DSC)
- Autoclave reactor testing facilities (3 sets)
- Glove box facilities for catalyst preparation
- Gas Chromatography
- Liquid Chromatography
Located at UBE Innovation Center in Rayong, the new laboratory facilities were
completed in November 2009 which moved from the previous facility in UBE Nylon
(Thailand) that completed in 2006. This new facilities is located near UBE Group
manufacturing base in Thailand. As of now, the core competencies in UTCA are
| |
1. Chemicals & Polymer materials characterization |
| |
2. Catalyst research |
| |
3. Process Simulation Technology |
| |
4. Process science, design & engineering | In future, more core competencies, such as Molecular Model Simulation, Computer-aided
engineering (CAE) simulation and Polymer material, will be added to UTCA’s core
competencies.
At present, UTCA is pursuing the following missions:
- Become UBE advanced research center to develop and support its innovation and
growth objectives
- To be a complete characterization center for chemicals and polymer materials
- Provide localization of technical services and solutions for customers of UBE
products in the region
- Develop world-class scientists and engineers
- Make positive contribution to Thailand innovation development
